Interview with Billy Schwer, professional speaker and former World boxing Champion
After 20 years at the top of his field, collecting British, Commonwealth, European and World Titles, Billy retired from professional boxing. Using the lessons he learned during this time and guided by his passionate conviction that anything is possible, he has built a successful business as an Inspirational & Motivational Speaker and Performance Coach. He was therefore the perfect guest speaker for our recent partner update meeting…
What time do you wake up and how do you spend the first hour of your working day?
A. I generally wake up between 6 -6.30. As I am waking up, coming from unconscious to conscious, I find myself in a very creative space and it’s my best time to work on developing projects and reflection.
When you left school what did you think you would end up doing? What were your aspirations?
A. I thought I would be a carpenter. My aspiration was to be a World Champion boxer and at that time I was too young to turn professional, so I started an apprenticeship as a carpenter.
How did it all start?
A. It all started when I was five years of age, when my older sisters used to beat me up and I made a decision that I was weak. I then spent a lifetime proving I wasn’t by becoming a Fighter.  As life and business is a fight.
What’s the best part of your job?
A. Giving people access to something they have not seen about themselves and their lives that makes a difference.
What have you enjoyed about your career to date?
A. Representing my country, traveling the world, winning championships, and now in my new career making a difference, inspiring people to take action.
What is your top tip for becoming a successful entrepreneur?
A. Persistence, never giving up, fighting for what you want.  Having the courage to step up, put yourself at risk and being prepared to fail.
Are there any specific skills or qualities you believe are vital to make it in the current economic climate?
A. Self-belief, discipline, dedication.  Being powerful in the face of adversity, set-backs and defeats, to keep coming back…
Where do you hope to be in 5 years’ time?
A. Happy, fulfilled, satisfied and financially free.
What motivates you and keeps you going throughout the week?
A. The future that I am creating, designing and living into.
What has been your biggest challenge?
A. Reinventing and recreating myself after I retired from professional boxing.
Are there any blogs/websites/influential people you recommend that people follow?
A. Landmark Insights, Mental toughness blog.
Who do you admire?
A. People who pursue their dreams.
What are you currently reading?
A. Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuk. Stephen King on Writing.
What technology could you not live without?
